Jr/Sr High counseling is intended to enhance and support all students in academics, personal and social development, and post-secondary and career planning.

Each high school student is helped to develop an individual four-year high school plan detailing curriculum choices, course choices, post-secondary plans and career plans. These plans are updated at the beginning of the year and again at enrollment time, toward the end of the year, also a resume listing of all school, community and work activities is updated at the same time.

The counselor also schedules representative visits, by post-secondary school and military branches, all interested juniors and seniors are encouraged to attend.

Seniors also have college campus visit days; this is an excellent way for parents and students to get a feel for the campus. Parents or students need to call the office of admissions and arrange these visits. Please notify the high school office in advance of these visits.

Students and parents meet with a school counselor for a variety of reasons. Parents contact the counselor to learn more about parenting skills, to improve family relationships, to obtain information about outside agencies, to gain support and understanding and to discuss academic questions or concerns. Students seek help from the counselor to improve peer-relations, to express feelings, to feel good about school, to solve problems, to change inappropriate behavior, to deal with difficult life events, and to discuss academics.

The counseling office has many resources including test preparation information, information on most Kansas post-secondary schools, and information on events sponsored throughout the year by colleges for prospective students.

Students may request help or visit the counselor at anytime by coming into the counseling office. An administrator, teacher or parent may also refer a student.
