The following is from a KACF publication:

“For generations, people lived their entire lives close to their birthplace and wealth passed from one generation to the next, most of that wealth stayed in the same county. In today’s world families rarely live in the same place across generations. With current out-migration trends, most of the current wealth will pass to heirs who no longer live in their home communities.

According to a study commissioned by the KACF in 2008, $66 billion will be transferred from one generation to the next in the State of Kansas by 2020. Leaving just 5% of an estate to the local community can help ensure that Kansas communities will not only survive, but thrive. The mission of the Kansas Association Community Foundations is to leverage the resources of community foundations in the state of Kansas so as to strengthen and promote community philanthropy and inspire action that will improve the quality of life in Kansas communities.

There are 48 members of the Kansas Association of Community Foundations. In 2008 KACF members invested $223 million in their local communities. KACF members hold over $1.2 billion in assets.”
