Hunter is a small rural farming community located on Highway 181. We are half way between two of the finest fishing and recreation lakes in Kansas Wilson Lake and Waconda Lake. We are also the center of ten other towns not being more than thirty miles from any one. We are twenty-eight miles straight north from Interstate 70. |

Hunter has a business community consisting of Hunter Meat Market, Hunter Café, Sylvan State Bank-Hunter, Post Office, Ed’s Electrical and Plumbing, Hunter Backhoe, Hunter Locker, Vera’s Tavern, Boettcher Enterprises, Farmway Coop Elevator and Service Station and Wilson Telephone Co. |

We have excellent wildlife habitats and thus
some of the best pheasant hunting in Kansas. We have Hunters that own
houses in Hunter that come back to hunt and to enjoy small town living. Hunter has Legion Post 77 and Hunter Rural Fire Department. The City of Hunter and Hunter Alumni maintain the Hunter Grade School Building as a community center with the City offices and Library located within. |

There are two churches located within Hunter-Trinity Lutheran Church and United Methodist. We also have two churches within the community - Bethany Baptist Church and Ash Grove Methodist. Eleven miles up Highway 181 in Tipton is St. Boniface Catholic Church. |

Hunter has a very active Lions Club.
The Hunter 4-H Club is the largest in membership of any active club in Mitchell County. We have attracted members from other communities due to our excellent club. |
